ARTA 101 Scholarship for Direct Relatives of Active Teachers

The ARTA 101 Scholarship for the Direct Relatives of an Active Teacher is made possible by the generosity of the Alberta Retired Teachers’ Association (ARTA). ARTA provides scholarships to students in a degree, certificate or diploma program of two or more years at an accredited post-secondary institution.

These scholarships recognize academic achievement, community involvement, and volunteer work. Future goals, personal accomplishments and supporting letters of reference will also be significant in the overall determination of the scholarship recipients.

CRITERIA

  1. The Scholarship Selection Committee will consider all valid applications. The committee’s decision is final.

  2. The value of the scholarship fund is dispersed as follows:

    • $2,500.00 (up to one will be awarded)

  3. Applications are accepted from direct relatives (children, grandchildren, 1st and 2nd generation nieces and nephews) who are sponsored by current ARTA 101 members.

  4. The scholarships are limited to those applicants who have successfully completed the first, second or third year of an undergraduate or transfer program leading to a first degree or to those who have completed one or more full years of a certificate/diploma program provided by an accredited post-secondary institution.

  5. Applicants must be registered for the following year of the degree/certificate/diploma program.

  6. A certified and official transcript (signed by the registrar) from an accredited post-secondary institution must accompany the application.

  7. Applicants must be registered for the following year of their program.

  8. Applicants must supply two letters of reference.

    • References are to be provided through our online scholarship platform (letters submitted separately via email, etc. will not be accepted) and must be received prior to the application deadline.

    • Choose your references wisely. Reference letters should provide a broad scope of the applicant's academic standing and community involvement.

    • Contact information with the name, address, telephone number and email address of each reference must be included. The selection committee reserves the right to contact references.

    • References are limited to a maximum of 500 words.

  10. Scholarship applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by September 15 of the current year.

  11. Applicants who have previously received an ARTA101 or ARTA Scholarship do not qualify for a subsequent scholarship.
